A hallway is much more than a space connecting rooms; it sets the tone for the entire property and offers the first glimpse of its character and style.
When we were commissioned to transform the entrance hallway of this beautiful period property in Cheshire, our brief was to recreate the home’s heritage while introducing the quality and finish expected of a modern home.
Our approach was to strip back the years of tired finishes and introduce carefully considered features that would feel entirely at home in a property of this age.
Beautiful Bespoke Panelling
One of the most striking elements of the transformation is the introduction of traditional wall panelling.
Carefully designed and fitted to complement the proportions of the hallway and staircase, the new panelling brings architectural interest, texture and a sense of craftsmanship.
Finished in a soft, elegant shade, the panelling creates a timeless backdrop that enhances the natural light and gives the hallway a beautifully cohesive appearance.
A Bespoke Oak Front Door
The front door is one of the most important features of any period property, both aesthetically and practically.
For this project, we worked with craftsmen to introduce a bespoke, made-to-measure oak front door, to ensure security and warmth whilst closely matching the original.
The traditional double-glazed detailing allows natural light to filter into the hallway, while the craftsmanship of the bespoke door creates an entrance that feels both luxurious and welcoming.
Details and Finishing Touches
Replacing the old carpet with beautiful oak flooring made an immediate difference to the space, planks were preferred to herringbone in this instance to elongate the hallway.
The radiator cover is practical and aesthetic, again adding a touch of heritage.
The introduction of an ornate ceiling rose, paired with an elegant chandelier, creates a beautiful focal point and draws the eye upwards, celebrating the generous ceiling height of the hallway.
Traditional Craftsmanship, Beautiful Results

The finished hallway is a wonderful example of how sympathetic renovation can breathe new life into a period property.
At Miller Dickinson Construction, we understand that renovating a period home is about much more than simply updating its appearance. It is about respecting its history, enhancing its character and introducing quality craftsmanship that will stand the test of time.
